The context
Against a backdrop of rapid population growth and urbanisation, access to healthcare is improving in the Ivory Coast. However, there are still major inequalities, particularly between urban and rural areas.
The project
Ivory Coast has entrusted Ellipse Projects with the construction of 48 primary healthcare facilities (ESPCs – Établissements Sanitaires Publics de Premier Contact) and the renovation of 99 existing facilities. Many of the latter did not meet health standards, having deteriorated due to either natural wear and tear or damage. Financed by the Ivory Coast ORABANK and ING, the project was carried out from start to finish by Ellipse Projects.
The benefits
In addition to reducing the number of ‘medical deserts’ in the regions concerned, the project has enabled facilities to be brought up to standard and new equipment to be installed, thereby improving the conditions of healthcare workers as well as patients.
